Certain growth predicted for LED daytime running light

The latest product to come from the three Taiwanese factories of Giantlight Traffic Supplies is an LED daytime running light.
Using a projector type LED rather than a reflector type, the light automatically switches on when the engine is started. It uses four LED bulbs.
“The reflector type is much cheaper,” said Vera Parn, business chief, “ but it is not so bright and it has a short lifetime. The projector type is also very beautiful, more so than a reflector type.”
The company is preparing for what it sees as a certain market for growth with many countries insisting that news cars be fitted with daytime running lights from 2011 and buses to follow 18 months later.
“Mitsubishi has already decided to use our lamp for some of its models,” said Parn.
For 2010, the company has plans to take its existing standard 90mm lamp and convert it into an LED model.
“We will do that as soon as we get the orders from customers,” said Parn. “This will be tried first in the USA and Canada. Many customers are asking for LED headlamps, which is why we are starting the project.”
The company sells lamps both for the OEM and aftermarket, with about a third of the business coming from OEMs.
